Kerala Premier League: MA FA fight back to beat Travancore Royals 5-4

A RESILIENT PERFORMANCE from MA FA saw them break a two match losing streak, defeating Travancore Royals in a 5-4 thriller.

Facing each other as the two bottom teams in the Group B of Ramco Kerala Premier League, both teams came in with the intention of getting themselves above the relegation scare.

Travancore had the perfect start when they went 2-0 ahead just 5 minutes into the game. Thanks to goals coming from Maria Vivek and John Britto.

But Mar Athanasius Football Academy showed considerable maturity by not giving up and sticking to their plan. They got their first goal about 15 minutes in through Navin M Raghu. After a hard-fought first half, it was close to the half-time that the MA FA attack gained the upper hand. And by the half-time, Navin M Raghu had completed his brace and Delan Deny had found the net to make it 3-2.

The second half so both teams pump all cylinders in a thrilling goalfest. Once again it was Travancore who got off on the right foot. Within the first 10 minutes of the second half, they got two more goals; coming from John Chidi and Divakar.

But a second deficit in the same match did not deter MA FA. They continued to remain patient and before long, they had drawn even thanks to a goal by Muhammed Ajsal. And about 10 minutes before the regulation time was up, Salahudheen had scored the 5th goal for them.

Mar Athanasius moved to 3 points from 3 games after this result. They are now up to the 7th spot in the Group B points table, 7 points behind KSEB and Kerala United FC who are both on 10 points and occupy the coveted spots that lead to the semi-finals.

Travancore Royals FC have sunk to the bottom of the table with 2 losses from 2 games, occupying one of the two relegation spots for now along with the Kerala Blasters B team.
