THE FOURTH MATCHDAY of the Tamil Nadu Women's League saw FC Thamizhatchi maintain their place at the top of the table, while SDAT Excellence Club continued with their penchant for goalfests.
Taking on Tamil Nadu Police, Thamizhatchi demonstrated a calm grip over the game in earning a 2-0 victory. Both the goals were scored by Kayalvizhi who found the net 34 & 46 miniutes into the match.
In an earlier game, SDAT Excellence Club, the other major emerging power in the league, demolished Wow Women's Club in a thorough 14-0 onslaught. Milciya A, who was judged to be the best player of the match, scored a double hat-trick, finding the net 4 times in the first half and twice in the second half. Shanmuga Priya completed her hat-trick in the first half itself while Sruthi T took about 68 minutes to get three goals to her name. Monisha M was the other goalscorer, finding the target twice.
After today's results, FCThamizhatchi remain at the top of the table with 9 points from 3 matches. SDAT, however, are in hot pursuit with 6 points from 2 games. With these two powerhouses not scheduled to meet each other until 9th January, there's a prolong point build-up battle awaiting Chennai's football fans over the next three weeks.
The teams that lost today are not looking in good shape, occupying the bottom two spots on the points table. Tamil Nadu Police, howerver, showed potential for a comeback with their tight defensive display. They lost to SDAT 6-1 in their first match, which means they have faced only the two strongest teams in the league so far, which leaves ample room for recovery in the next few games.
But Wow Women's FC are looking like the worst of the lot after two losses. In these two matches they have conceded 24 goals and scored none. And their next encounter on 17th December, which is against Minerva FC who are also expected to be one of the stronger teams in the league, means there's unlikely to be any respite for their hapless defence any time soon.
