CFL 2021: Railway FC derail defending champ Peerless SC in quarter finals

RAILWAY FC HAVE REACHED the semi-finals of Calcutta Football League 2021, beating defending champions Peerless SC by a 4-0 margin.

The match was marred in controversy with two Peerless SC players being shown the red card around the 59th minute, including their main striker Ansumana Kromah. He along with a player off the bench got involved in a melee following a foul, and the referee sent both of them off reducing Peerless to 10 men on the pitch.

But it can be argued that Railway FC had already got the match firmly under their control by the time the red card incident happened. A consistent performance saw Achinta Ghosh get them the lead just 16 minutes into the match, which was doubled by Anthony Soren just before half-time.

Despite the best efforts from Peerless SC, Railway maintained the lead rather comfortably. And towards the end when fatigue was visibly setting in among the defending champions, Sukuram Sardar got the third goal for the victors. The match was all but over at that point, although Sourish Goswami got himself on the scoresheet deep into added time to ensure a commanding 4-0 victory for Railway FC.

United SC and George Telegraph have already reached the semi-finals. Railway FC are the third team to qualify. The last quarter final - postponed due to Mohammedan Sporting's Durand Cup commitments - will be held between Bhawanipore FC and the winner of the playoff match between Mohammedan Sporting and Tollygunge Agragami.
