MOHAMMEDAN SPORTING WERE overaken on the Calcutta Football League's Group A points table by Bhawanipore FC in the first major upset of the season.

Both Mohammedan and Bhawanipore came into the game undefeated in their CFL 2021 campaigns so far, but Bhawanipore were two points short of the group leaders, having won a match less.

But they more than made up for it with an early salvo that saw Sujoy Datta and Henry Kisekka score for them within the first 15 minutes, even before the opponents had found their rhythm in the game.

Although the Black Panthers tried their hardest to make a comeback in the game, Bhawanipore, buoyed by the cushion of lead, effectively defended to ensure the margin stayed the same till the end.

With this win, Bhawanipore improved to 8 points from 4 matches, taking the top of the group. Mohammedan Sporting remain on 7 points, part of a three team cluster that includes United SC and BSS SC who all have the same number of points, vying for the top two positions.

Mohammedan Sporting will return to action on Tuesday, 21st September, when they take on BSS SC. A win there will not only help them break back into the top position, but also knock down one of their major opponents in the competition, which will go a long way to restore the players' confidence after the setback they have faced today.
