East Bengal set to sign new investor, chances of playing in ISL 2020-21 brighten

FINALLY, MILLIONS OF East Bengal fans are finally breathing a massive sigh of relief as their beloved club looks set to announce a new investor.

With that, their chances of playing in the Indian Super League 2020-21 season have become significantly brigher.

According to multiple reports, Shree Cement, a company that started out in Rajasthan and later moved its headquarters to Kolkata, has agreed to get on board as the prime investors of the century-old club.

The structure of the deal is expected to be similar to the deal between Mohun Bagan and KGSPL, with the investing group holding around 80% shares of the football team's holding company.

It's up to FSDL now to carry out the process of inducting East Bengal to the ISL fold before the season kicks off in just over two months.

The news has sent waves of joy throughout the fanbase. The club's 99 year old rivalry with Mohun Bagan, which was in danger of being temporarily sidelined, looks set to carry on without a "gap season" at the national level now that both clubs are back in the same league.

With ISL-level marketing set to be applied to the famous Kolkata Derby for the first time, the rivalry is expected to reach new heights as it approaches its centenary in 2021.
