ISL 2020 -- Hyderabad FC announce Manuel Márquez Roca as their new head coach

HYDERABAD FC HAVE ROPED IN former Las Palmas and Espanyol B manager Manuel Márquez Roca as their new head coach for the 2020-21 season.

The decision was made official days after Albert Roca left the franchise to become a first team staff at FC Barcelona.

A former defender, he has been active as a coach since 2002, mostly in the Spanish lower tiers. After mixed results at Associació Esportiva Prat, Europa, Badalona, Espanyol B and Sant Andreu, he became the manager of Las Palmas B and got them promoted to the third tier. Afterwards, he was appointed as the manager of the club's first team but left after just six La Liga matches, with two wins and four losses during his short stint.

Afterwards, he became the manager of NK Istra 1961, a Croatian top flight club. After 7 matches, out of which his team only won 1, he was let go.

His first stint in Asia came at Ratchaburi Mitr Phol FC, a top flight club in Thailand. However, he left the club just a month later, before playing a single game, citing "personal reasons."

With Hyderabad FC, he will return to competitive football for the first time after over two years. But he has already had a personal battle earlier this year, when he was diagnosed with COVID-19. He beat the disease within two weeks.
