1960 Olympian footballer Syed Shahid Hakim tests positive for COVID-19

DHYAN CHAND AWARDEE football player Syed Shahid Hakim, who represented India in the 1960 Olympics, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Born in 1939, Mr Hakim is now aged 81. His novel coronavirus positive detection came earlier today, and he has since gone into quarantine.

Son of the legendary coach Syed Abdul Rahim, the Hyderabad-born Indian international had a long coaching career as well, for which he won the Dronacharya Award. He was also an experienced referee, officiating 33 international matches, including serving at the Asian Cup 1988.

The news has sent shockwaves through the Hyderabad football community, as well as the members of the Calcutta Sports Journalists' Club where he paid a visit multiple times over the years.
