THE HOSTING BIDS FOR Asian Cup 2027 have been submitted, and India is among the countries who have formally sought to host the tournament.
The other four countries who have submitted bids are Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Uzbekistan.
If successful, it would be the fourth major intenational football championship that India get to host within 10 years; ther others being FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017, FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2020 (postponed to 2021) and AFC Women's Asian Cup 2022.
India qualified for the 2019 edition of the Asian Cup, which was held in UAE. The Blue Tigers are presently locked in the battle to qualify for the next edition of the continental championship, which will take place in China in 2023.
With AIFF's increasing presence in the top brass of AFC (AIFF President Praful Patel is the Senior Vice President), the success of past international tournaments held in the country and the potential heavy competition in the hosting process between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, India may stand a good chance to win the hosting rights as a capable and attractive choice as the venue.
