Mohun Bagan donate Rs 20 lakhs to CM's fund to combat coronavirus

MOHUN BAGAN HAVE donated a large sum of money to the West Bengal Chief Minister's fund to help combat the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The number of COVID-19 positive detections are on the rise in West Bengal with 15 being confirmed to have the virus till now. Just yesterday, 5 members of the same family got diagnosed with the disease, and relief efforts are being beefed up in the affected areas.

The Mariners, who won the I-League 2019-20 championship just before matches were postponed due to the pandemic, have come forward with a contribution of Rs 20 lakhs, helping the state government bolster its testing and santization projects.

The Mohun Bagan club itself has suffered from the outbreak; the club tent closed its doors for the first time in decades when the country was preparing for lockdown. Club personnel, including ground and canteen staff were asked to remain at home just before the mandatory 21-day lockdown was enacted by the central government.

While the Mohun Bagan fans filled up the Kalyani Stadium and celebrated as their club won the league, the club had planned for a gala celebration on 4th April when the I-League trophy was supposed to be officially handed over to them. That event, along with the traditional 'Bar Pujo' in mid-April, remains postponed due to the current situation.
