I-League 2019-20 FULL MATCH: East Bengal hold Churchill with late penalty

A LATE SPOT KICK conversion by Jaime Colado salvaged a draw for East Bengal against Churchill Brothers at home in I-League today.

Churchill Brothers had taken the lead early in the game through a goal scored by Willis Plaza. East Bengal, however, were always in the hunt for an equalizer but despite creating more chances and dominating possession they fell short of finding the net for a prolonged period.

The Red and Golds hit the post, even had Kromah's goal disallowed due to offside, as they tried relentlessly to keep themselves in the game. But it wasn't until the 95th minute that they won a penalty and equalized via Colado's conversion.

The draw is a huge setback for Churchill Brothers, who are now third on the table with 20 points from 13 games. East Bengal, on 19 points from 14 games, have dropped points after two back to back wins.

Neither club would be satisfied with the result; and perhaps the only ones delighted with the draw would be league leaders Mohun Bagan (32 points from 13 matches), who were looking at Churchill Brothers as the biggest potential threat to their title bid.
