THE MOHUN BAGAN SQUAD HAS reached Aizawl ahead of their campaign opener against Aizawl FC.
The match, scheduled to take place on the 30th of November, will kick off the I-League 2019-20 season.
The Mariners, who finished 5th in the league last season, have always had a hard time against the People's Club and they have played in some of the most high stakes matches in Indian football in recent years; including the Federation Cup final in 2016 and the thrilling I-League title race deciders in 2017.
The players who made the cut for the trip are Fran Gonzalez, Joseba Beitia, Dhanachandra Singh, Sk Sahil, Nongdamba Naorem, Romario Jesuraj, VP Suhair, Britto PM, Julen Colinas, Salva Chamorro, Gurjinder Kumar, Sk Faiaz, Daneil Cyrus, Debjit Majumder, Shilton Paul, Ashutosh Mehta, Lalramchullova & Fran Morante.
The club's management is under considerable pressure to deliver results this season following their lacklustre performance in last season's I-League and their failure to capture the title in Calcutta Football League, Durand Cup and Sheikh Jamal International Club Cup earlier this season.
For Aizawl FC fans, it's a relief to see their club return to action, following weeks of rumours that they were pulling out of I-League. Those rumours, however, proved to be untrue when the club's official Twitter handle addressed it, asserting they were going to stay in the league.
To everyone who are still wondering - Is @AizawlFC playing the I-League? Well here's your answer - YES! We are Playing. 4 the ❤ of football, 4 the sake of all #indianfootball fans & to keep developing and promoting football in the country. @ILeagueOfficial See you in few days!
