ISL 2019-20: Amarjit Singh Kiyam begins rehab at Jamshedpur FC

INDIAN NATIONAL TEAM AND Jamshedpur FC midfielder Amarjit Singh Kiyam has begun his rehab following a period of absence from action due to a serious arm injury.

Amarjit, who captain the India U-17 team during FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 and debuted for the senior national team this summer, was selected for the Blue Tigers' FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers campaign but got injured during a practice session in Goa back in August.

As a result, the former Indian Arrows captain had to sit out not only from the national team's matches but also the early matches of his new club Jamshedpur FC.

The 18 year old debuted for the national team in the King's Cup against Curacao to universal acclaim. Head coach Igor Stimac even had some special words of praise for him, dropping by during Amarjit's exclusive interview with TFG saying,

"He was our man of the match... he changed the game."

He was being groomed for a major role in the Blue Tigers' midfield with regular game time during the Intercontinental Cup. His absence was felt during subsequent matches where India did not notch up a single win.

But now there are hopes that by the time the national team returns to action in March 2020, Amarjit will be fit and ready to don the Blue once again.

In a video shared by Jamshedpur FC on social media, he is shown to be in a gym, working on getting back on the pitch.

In the video, the youngster said his sole focus was only on completing his recovery process and being match fit for his club and national team again,

"I've been out for two months due to injury. Now I'm back and going through rehab. I'm feeling very good about it. During my injury, AIFF and Jamshedpur FC helped me a lot... the coaches, medical staff of Jamshedpur FC, my friends and seniors here all encourage and motivate me, it makes me very happy. Right now all I want to do is debut for Jamshedpur FC as soon as possible."

Jamshedpur FC started their ISL 2019-20 campaign well with two wins and a draw, before suffering their first loss just prior to the international break. They went down to ATK 3-1 away, settling on the 4th place on the league table with 7 points from 4 matches.

With a lot riding on their mid to late season efforts to maintain consistency, Jamshedpur FC will need the depth and versatility offered by a player like Amarjit in their squad if they are to aim for the top of the table.
