WATCH - Mohun Bagan beat TC Sports Club 2-0 in Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup

MOHUN BAGAN RETURNED TO WINNING WAYS by beating defending champions TC Sports Club at the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup.

After suffering a loss to Young Elephants FC due to their own defensive errors, the Mariners needed a win to keep their semi-final hopes alive. They faced the defending champs in their second Group A clash, and started well, scoring their first goal just 4 minutes in through Daniel Cyrus.

The club kept up a good pace and constant pressure, while doing a better job of defending against the counters that made them suffer in the previous game. They even hit the woodwork a couple of times and missed a couple of easy chances to increase their lead.

But right after the hour mark, Britto's cross found Colinas who sent it to Salva Chamorro and this time the striker found the target with his quick finish, getting Bagan a lead of 2-0. This scoreline remained intact till the end of the game.

This win gives Mohun Bagan a second wind in their quest to reach the semis; but to ensure they do they must face their toughest task yet when they face the tournament's 2015 champion Chittagong Abahani on 25th October.

To ensure qualification the Mariners must beat Chittagong Abahani; because if Young Elephants FC, who lost to Chittagong Abahani in their second match today, win their last group stage game against TC Sports Club then 3 clubs from Group A will end up with 6 points each. At that point it will come down to goal difference in the matches those 3 clubs have played amongst each other. Currently that tally stands at Chittagong +2, Mohun Bagan -1 and Young Elephants -1.

Young Elephants have already played against the other clubs so they have no chance to improve their tally; it's up to the Mariners now to improve it and lay claim to their place in the top two of the group.
