CHENNAI CITY FC were finally presented with the Hero I-League 2018-19 championship trophy today at a formal ceremony in Chennai.

The club, playing out of Coimbatore, made history by becoming the first club from Tamil Nadu to achieve the title of 'Champions of India' on March 9th when they defeated former champions Minerva Punjab FC on the very last day of the season.

They finished just 1 point ahead of fellow title contenders East Bengal.

The club which under Singaporean head coach Akbar Nawas showed a massive improvement since last season, became the 11th club in the history of Indian football to win the domestic top division league.

The ceremony took place at the Taj Coromandel in Chennai. It was attended by local fans and mediapersons, as well as some of the senior officials of other I-League clubs, who are there to mutually discuss their future actions regarding their participation in the Super Cup 2019 as well as how they will approach the re-structuring of leagues next season.

While the Chennai City FC players celebrated with their hard-earned title, it seems for club owner Rohit Ramesh and his staff the battle is not over; they are still in the middle of a long-drawn struggle to avoid relegation.
