AHEAD OF the commencement of the 18/19 season, Adidas kicked the laceless cleats up a notch by launching the “Team Mode” pack. Containing the Predator 18+ and the X 18+, the collection is soon set to be seen on the pitch on the feet of some of the game’s biggest stars, including Paul Pogba, Mohammad Salah, Mesut Ozil and many more Adidas-sponsored athletes.
The headliner of the collection is the Predator 18+. Hands down one of the classiest colorways for the reborn Predator yet, the 18+ come in quintessential ‘black, red and white'. The vintage design is bound to remind you of the ’98 Predator cleats donned by legends such as Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham and Raul Gonzalez.
For the boot nerds, the 18+ have led the on-pitch tech by featuring 'Purecut Laceless system' for maximum control, 'Primeknit Sockfit Collar' for support and an 'Anatomical Upper' to lock the foot into place. It also has an internal boost cushioning to provide maximum energy return with every stride.
FUN FACT: The greatest goal (arguably) to be ever scored in the history of Champions League Finals came off Zinedine Zidane’s Predators to help Real Madrid beat Bayern Leverkusen in 2002. With the scores level at HT, the French legend netted an astonishing volley on Roberto Carlos’ lobbed ball to regain lead.
Second in line in the ‘Team Mode’ pack is Adidas’ first laceless speed boot, X18+, which comes in a striking yellow, black and blue colorway. One can almost feel that new Skeletalweave construction while looking at the new colors.
The cleats have been primarily designed to 'unleash the speed of the game's most dangerous players' i.e. by providing stability and support at high speed. For the boot nerds, the ‘Speedmesh’ offers a controlled touch without restricting any movement, the 'Claw Collar' construction firmly secures the foot in place. While the ‘ultra-thin woven grid’ allows for responsive touch, it also gives an outrageously lightweight feel.
While both the cleats are drool-worthy one has to pick a boot that would suit the style in order to dictate the game and dominate the season.
