CFL 2018 FULL MATCH -- Mohun Bagan held to a shock draw by giant killers Peerless

MOHUN BAGAN DROPPED POINTS for the first time this season when Peerless held them to a 1-1 draw at a Calcutta Football League (Premier Division A) match today at the Mohun Bagan Ground.

Looking to continue their winning run, Mohun Bagan played an attacking brand of football in front of a sold out crowd at their own stadium. Peerless were defending in numbers, and although the Mariners created multiple chances they failed to break the deadlock mostly thanks to many misses. Henry Kisseka was served up several opportunities especially from the wings which he failed to capitalize on.

As the second half progressed pressure built on the Bagan side to get the break-through. After the hour mark sensing increasing despearation in their opponents, Peerless coach Biswajit Bhattacharya put more bodies forward looking to sneak in a goal. Nuruddin almost did that but he was caught offside.

Not long after this Mohun Bagan finally scored. It was Azharuddin Mallick who started the move with a run up the left flank. He found Henry Kisseka with a pin-point cross. The finishing header this time did not miss. Mohun Bagan went 1-0 ahead.

The crowd at the Mohun Bagan ground started celebrating but their joy proved to be short-lived when in the last minute of regulation time Peerless made a counter which saw former Mohun Bagan and current Peerless player Kromah find the net. It was a shock goal that stunned the 20,000+ green and maroon crowd. The Bagan players had little time to muster a response and the match ended a draw.

This result comes as a blow to Mohun Bagan's title aspirations who, despite sitting at the top of the table with 10 points from 4 matches, are now vulnerable to being caught up by East Bengal, Mohammedan Sporting as well as Peerless.

Peerless, meanwhile, are in celebratory mode after causing such a major upset in the CFL title race and holding onto their unbeaten status.
