A HARD FOUGHT GAME unfolded at the Mohun Bagan Ground when the Mariners took on Calcutta Football League dark horses Rainbow AC.
Mohun Bagan defeated Rainbow AC 3-2 after going a goal down first, to score a second consecutive win in their CFL 2018 campaign.
Rainbow AC, who have built a strong team and look like potential giant killers this season, drew first blood when Abhijit Sarkar found the net nearly 40 minutes into the game. Rainbow went into half time leading 1-0, but when the game Dicka immediately put the Green and Maroons back on level terms. This was followed by a spell of attacks where Abhishek as well as Azharuddin Mullick scored, getting Mohun Bagan a comfortable 3-1 lead with about 16 minutes still to go.
But Rainbow refused to bow to the pressure and kept trying to get back into the game. 82 minutes in, a long ball drew Bagan keeper Shilton Paul out of his position, and it allowed Joel Sunday to find the net, making it 3-2. Rainbow players went all out to find an equalizer in the final minutes of the game but Mohun Bagan were able to hold them off.

This is the second win on the trot for the Mariners, which puts them at the top of the league table. Rainbow AC are currently in second place with one win and one loss. East Bengal, who had their first match abandoned due to excessive rainfall, are third in the table, with one win from a subsequent match.
