EAST BENGAL FINALLY returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Police AC in the Calcutta Football League.
Lalrindika Ralte, who is playing for East Bengal after a couple of seasons, got a goal on his debut and was cheered on vociferously by the 23,000-strong crowd that filled the East Bengal Ground.
Kaseem Aidara, too, got his first goal for the Red and Golds. Police AC, comprising mostly of semi-professional players, did not put up much of a resistance especially in the first half when East Bengal found the net twice. The second half was marked by a slow pace as the home team showed signs of still not being their best shape. Gagandeep Singh, especially, was wasteful up front as he got repeatedly caught in a fairly rudimentary offside trap set by the Police AC defence.
But the East Bengal team was happy to get all three points from the game, especially since the club's campaign opener had to be abandoned due to excessive rain.
