FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup: Fans rush to book discounted tickets in online presale

TICKETS FOR the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, to be held in India this October, are now available for purchase online.

Today, FIFA launched an exclusive presale offer for Visa cardholders where fans can buy tickets to the historic tournament at discounted prices.

For example, tickets to the landmark India vs USA match on 11th October, which will mark the Blue Tigresses' World Cup debut, are priced at Rs 80 and Rs 160; reduced from their earmarked prices of Rs 100 and Rs 200.

Tickets to all 32 matches of the tournament are up for sale; with the discounted prices said to be available till September 8th.

In a statement, FIFA said,

"Visa, the Official Payment Services Partner of FIFA, is the preferred payment method for fan ticket purchases for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022.

With the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ less than one year away, some of the world’s best young players will take to field in three Host Cities across India later this year.

Bhubaneswar, Goa and Navi Mumbai will provide a vibrant platform for the brightest young talents of the women’s game to showcase their skills at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022, which takes place from 11-30 October."

The online portal seemingly experienced immediate rush from fans to purchase tickets. Within minutes of the official notification being issued, some fans found that the online portal was experiencing a little bit of lag when it came to processing the orders.

Reportedly, the system initially showed no signs of slowdown, but that changed after a few minutes while some fans attempted to book tickets to multiple matches. This provides further indication that the lag may have been caused by a rush of fans trying to book their seats at this historic event; in what can be seen as a good early sign for the tournament.

When India hosted the men's FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017, it became the highest attended edition in the history of the tournament. With fans missing out on the chance to be present at the Women's Asian Cup 2022 due to COVID-19 restrictions, there may be added enthusiasm about the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup from match-going fans.
