THE INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE is all about promoting local talent. Since its inception, the cash-rich league has not only made investors wealthier but also made IPL a household nameacross the nation.

From the Under-19s, Ranji Trophy to obscure cricket tournaments, the franchises have once again identified cricketing potential and have shown immense courage to pave the way for the next generation. Since its inception just over a decade ago, several Indian cricketers have basked in IPL’s limelight and have also gone on to represent the country at the highest
level.

In fact, India's 2011 World Cup win can be largely attributed to the IPL. From batting, bowling to even fielding, the overall cricketing standards in the country improved leaps and bounds post IPL. As the 11th edition reaches its climax, we are already seeing new talent coming through the ranks and enjoying the fanfare and adulation, amongst marquee names.

While it can be argued that IPL shouldn't be the only benchmark for a ticket to the national team, the platform it provides for the young brigade cannot be overlooked. A live IPL tournament watched by millions globally provides youngsters with the perfect platform to showcase their talent while rubbing shoulders with international players helps them understand the key ingredients required to become a top cricketer.

Although the Indian team for the limited overs tour to England has been picked, we look at a few youngsters who have shown a potential to debut for India in future with their performances in this year’s IPL.
