AFC Cup 2018: Have to take advantage of our squad depth, says BFC coach Roca; Ralte to lead the side

BENGALURU FC will begin their AFC Cup campaign on 23rd January against Transport United in Bhutan. Talking at the pre-match press conference, coach Albert Roca said,

"Tomorrow marks the beginning of another journey in Asia for us. We have to remind ourselves that we have reached the final once, the semi-final twice. It's an important competition for us and we're looking forward to it."

Talking about his squad, he said,

"We have to take advantage of our squad depth, by rotating the players. I know that everyone is focused and looking forward to getting the good result. have seven players from my reserve team who've made the trip. We are playing in two important competitions and we have to avoid injuries. Those who haven't played too many games have a good opportunity to prove themselves tomorrow."

Talking further about his players playing in the situations in Bhutan,

"It's difficult to know how many of my players are used to these conditions, because some of them have never played in such high altitudes. In terms of occasion, I'm sure that many of them are ready because we still have members of the squad who have played in the 2016 final. Some of the young players will look up to the experienced ones and they'll do well to learn from the exposure they're getting tomorrow."

Keeper Lalthuammawia Ralte will be the captain of the side. Talking about the same, he said,

"He is a top professional who conducts himself well on and off the pitch and I'm sure he'll lead by example."

Ralte talking about the fixture, said,

"As coach said, we have a young squad but we're all focused on the game. We expect a good match and even the junior ones in the squad want to show their potential. The AFC Cup gives us more exposure to what's outside the country. Facing opposition from abroad makes us better and our plans and strategies are made accordingly."

Roca wants the fans of both the teams to enjoy the match thoroughly,

"I want the fans back home to enjoy tomorrow's game. I would also like the Transport United supporters in Bhutan to come and create an atmosphere because these are the kind of games that deserve one."

He further spoke about Sunil Chhetri being rested for this,

"He has played almost every minute in the ISL and bringing him here would be us risking an injury to an important player. He may be disappointed, but as a coach it's important to take care of my squad. e has played a lot of games for club and country, and I feel he deserved to take a rest. I'm sure he would've wanted to make this trip, but as a professional coach I need to give him a rest."
