India shouldn’t have overlooked the recent overseas performance of Rahul & Rahane: Ganguly

FORMER INDIA SKIPPER Sourav Ganguly believes that the team managed shouldn’t have overlooked the recent overseas performance of KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane while selecting the team for the first Test against South Africa.

The hosts won the opening Test by 72-runs as India failed to chase a target of 208. Speaking to India Today, the ‘Prince of Calcutta’ said,

“The history of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma in overseas conditions is not very good. Their record is basically chalk and cheese when it comes to overseas Tests. It is fine to go by current form, but they should not have overlooked the performances of KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane in overseas conditions in the past few years.”

Dhawan and Rohit scored a total of 53 runs in the two innings. Following the defeat at Cape Town, skipper Virat Kohli reflected on the aforementioned topic and said,

“Well, we decided to go on current form. Rohit (Sharma) has scored runs in the last three Test matches that he has played, and he was batting well, even in the series against Sri Lanka.”
