I-League 2017-18: Mohun Bagan promote assistant coach Shankarlal Chakraborty to head coach
MOHUN BAGAN ASSISTANT COACH Shankarlal Chakraborty has taken over as the new head coach of the club after Sanjoy Sen resigned from the post yesterday.
This morning Mohun Bagan officials held a meeting at the club premises to discuss who would be the successor of Sen, and in the end they decided to go with Chakraborty, who possesses an AFC A-License and has been with the club for three and a half years.
The club thereafter released this statement,
"This is to bring to your kind attention that Mr. Sanjoy Sen has decided to step down as the Head Coach of Mohun Bagan senior team. He informed about his desire not to continue as the head coach to the Club management post Mohun Bagan’s 2-1 defeat in yesterday’s Hero I-League match against Chennai City FC.
Mr. Sen “thanked the entire club management, support staffs and well wisher for their unconditional support which he had received since becoming head coach in December 2014. He wished the team all the best for the remainder of the season 2017-18”.
The club management would like to thank Mr. Sen for all the hard work he has done being in charge of the team for the past 3 years. We wish him all success for his future endeavors.”
Further the club management have decided to elevate Mr. Sankarlal Chakraborty, as the Head Coach for the remainder of the 2017-18 season. Mr. Chakraborty has been there with the team since July 2014."
Chakraborty, a former player, became the Mohun Bagan assistant coach under previous manager Subhash Bhowmick. He continued to serve in that position under Sanjoy Sen who took over before the I-League 2014-15 season. He also served as an acting head coach during the Calcutta Football League when Sen took a hiatus and several I-League and Federation Cup matches when Sen was suspended.
