THE ISL 2017-18 HAS COLLECTED ITS first managerial scalp as Kerala Blasters FC have reportedly parted ways with their head coach Rene Meulensteen.
KBFC, after finishing second in ISL 2016 and reaching the final, started this season with high expectations but their start to the campaign has been disappointing, with the team collecting only 7 points from their first 7 games. The fans' patience began to ran out after they lost to Bengaluru FC over the weekend; a humiliating home loss against a fierce rival.
This forced the franchise's management to re-evaluate how the team has been performing under their Dutch coach who managed Fulham and served as a first team coach at Manchester United in the past. After some discussion, the franchise decided to "part ways" with the gaffer.
According to multiple reports, the interim replacement for Meulensteen is none other than assistant coach Thangboi Singto, who previously managed Shillong Lajong in the top division for many years.
The experienced and accomplished gaffer may become the first Indian national to be the acting head coach for an ISL team if KBFC take on Pune City with him at the helm on Thursday night.
