I-League 2017-18: We cannot afford to drop any more points on home says Sanjoy Sen

MOHUN BAGAN will surely look forward to shrugging off their woes when they come out to clash with Chennai City FC at the Mohun Bagan Ground tomorrow (January 2, 2018) at 5:30 P.M.

The Kolkata giants are in a lot of pressure at the moment after three back to back draws at home against Shillong Lajong, NEROCA FC and Indian Arrows. They are on the fifth position in the league table with 10 points from six matches, four points behind arch-rivals and table toppers Kingfisher East Bengal.

Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen, who is understandably under a lot of pressure is eyeing full points at home against Chennai City FC. He said,

“We have to win tomorrow’s encounter. We cannot afford to drop any more points on home. This is our last home before travel for quite a few away games.”

Sen agreed that his team is not performing as per expectations but also pointed out that luck is not on their side at the moment. Speaking about his team’s performance, the coach quipped,

“No doubt we are playing bad football but luck in football constitutes at least one percent.”

The Kolkata club is plagued with numerous injuries. Their star player Sony Norde, who had picked up a knee injury against Churchill Brothers, is yet to attain fitness. The Haitian internationals absence is felt in almost every game. Speaking on Norde, Sen said,

“Sony is definitely an important player for our side but we have to reduce our dependency on him. The other players have to step up and win matches for the side.”

The away side Chennai City FC are also struggling in the I-League this season. V. Soundararajan’s boys have won just one game so far in the competition and are placed on the eighth position in the league table.

The last they had played was against Mohun Bagan’s arch-rivals Kingfisher East Bengal. The Chennai outfit played their match against the Red and Golds at their home ground and lost the fixture by 1-2.

Chennai City coach Soundararajan complimented their opponents Mohun Bagan and also tagged them as an organised outfit who are better than East Bengal.

“Mohun Bagan are a better side than Kingfisher East Bengal. They are much more organised. Kingfisher East Bengal are getting the goals, while luck is eluding Mohun Bagan,” said Chennai gaffer.

A point against a formidable opponent like Mohun Bagan from Kolkata should be enough for the South Indian side.

The match kicks off at 5:30 PM and will be telecasted on Star Sports 2/HD and live streamed on Hotstar and Jio TV.
