MATCH REPORT: Mumbai City slap Delhi with 4 goals in a game with 20 players for an entire half

DELHI DYNAMOS FC were looking for some inspiration to shake off the back to back defeats with at a positive result at Mumbai. Mumbai City FC wanted to make it two out of two wins with a victory over Dynamos.

Arnab Das brought down Everton Santos in the 12th minute to give away Mumbai a penalty. Emana was the taker of the penalty, he sends Arnab the wrong way and side foots his kick, seeing it roll away and hit the post. Goian was the quickest to react to the rebound and slide in to score the opening goal of the match.

The first chance for Delhi fell to Romeo when a blocked shot reached him in the box. He was on the right side of the box, shot it with power but missed the goal completely. Shortly after that Mumbai had chance to attack when Balwant had beaten the offside trap and was through but had defenders for cover. He played wide to the left, cross comes in low but straight to Arnab.

 

Another chance for Delhi. Ruidas's clearance fell just outside the box and the shot taken by Mirabaje beat the keeper, hit the post and stayed out.  Delhi had started to make the right moves for a positive response for the goal conceded. And that is when Mumbai struck again. Lumu conceded a free kick near the right touchline. Emana’s free kick was perfect to Everton who leaped high and his header was well connected to beat the keeper. Delhi replied with two efforts which were blocked off by Mumbai in a haphazard manner. Then an incident that saw the 22 players on the field being reduced to 20. Sehnaj and Mirabaje were involved in pushing each other violently. The referee spotted it and send both players off the field with a straight red card. That happened just before half time and the score read 2-0 to Mumbai City.

The half began and the first chance fell to Guyon whose header from about 7 yards out failed even hit the target. Mumbai punished Delhi for the miss and showed how it’s done. Everton’s header from the corner hit the upright and bounced past the goalline and came out and Thiado to tap in. Everton was awarded the goal and it meant Mumbai were 3-0 up. Chhangte who came on played his part in adding some spice to the Delhi attack. He did cause some problems with his pace and movement. With 15 minutes remaining, Balwant was played by Emana to Balwant behind the defence and he struck the ball to the floor before the ball bounced a couple of times before ending up in the goal. Arindam was tested just before the 90th minute mark and he made a great stop to keep the ball out.

Mumbai enjoyed the home win and the woes for Delhi continued to pile up after the big defeat.
