I-League 2017-18: Mohun Bagan release Diogo, sign Manandeep as injury worries continue

AT MOHUN BAGAN, A PLAYER RESHUFFLE is underway amidst multiple injury concerns.

There are chances that two of the Mariners' attacking stalwarts, Sony Norde and Kromah, will start from the bench when they take on Shillong Lajong this evening. Yuta Kinowaki will be out for a few weeks too, landing the club's midfield in a serious vacuum.

But in the middle of all this, the much-touted central defensive midfield signing Diogo Ferreira has left the club with mutual consent. The player, it seems, could not get himself adjusted to the style of play that coach Sanjoy Sen wanted out of the team. This has left the club with an open spot for a new foreign signing in the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, 25 year old striker Manandeep Singh, who has formerly played for East Bengal, Kerala Blasters, Delhi Dynamos, Minerva Punjab and Salgaocar, has joined the club's practice session. The player made an early name for himself while playing for Indian Arrows but has faded over the last few years; the last top division goal he scored came in 2013 when he was playing for Rangdajied United; incidentally against Mohun Bagan itself. While the signing looks like a typical squad boosting winter window deal, it will be interesting to see if the youngster can use this opportunity to make a career comeback.
