Team India to play 158 matches between 2019 and 2023
RECENTLY, skipper Virat Kohli had requested the BCCI to decongest their cramped schedule in the coming season. However, it appears that the prolific batsman’s suggestion has not been heeded by the board.
According to the Future Tour Programme (FTP) for the next four years (2019-23), India is set to play 158 international matches, which include 85 home and 73 away matches. These matches would be consisting of 37 Tests, 67 ODIs and 54 T20Is. The home break-up of the schedule includes 19 Tests, 38 ODIs and 28 T20Is.
It is learnt that the previous FTP included 36 Tests, 73 ODIs and 18 T20Is with a total of 127 games. The schedule will be discussed in detail in the BCCI’s SGM on December 11. Sources have reported that the team is aware of the scheduled and it has already been presented to the ICC in a meeting held in Singapore on December 5 and 7.
As reported by Cricbuzz, a source working close to the development divulged,
“You can’t play less and earn more. That is never going to happen. Even if the schedule is more evenly distributed, players’ workload would be more.”
