MATCH REPORT: Brace for Dipanda as Bagan hammer five past Churchill Brothers

IT WAS BLOW for Mohun Bagan very early in the game as Yuta Kinowaki had to stretchered off and rushed to the hospital as he suffered a shoulder injury in the third minute of the game.

Shilton D’Silva replaced Yuta. In the opening minutes, Kromah was the furthest Bagan forward, getting behind the defence very often. A free kick was won by Kromah as ran across the edge of box and was brought down a yard from being a penalty. The free kick was in Sony Norde territory. The kick was disappointing as it hit the wall.

Last season’ top scorer Dipanda was in action for the first time when he tried to curl a ball but misses by far too much. Even with the pressure applied by Mohun Bagan, it could have been Churchill who should have scored the first goal. Nicholas spotted and played Obina in the box as he was yards in front of the goal and had to just get his header on target but failed to do so.

The goal finally came. Mohun got their breakthrough as Kromah was on his right foot outside the box and side-footed the ball past Kithan for the first goal in the 23rd minute. Dipanda was the next to get his name on the goal sheet. He turned away from his marker and sped away to find himself with just keeper to beat and makes no mistake. Two nil to Bagan in the 33rd minute. That was the score at half time. Not before Bagan had a mix up at the back but managed to re-organise quickly before Churchill got to it.

The second half saw two quick goals from Mohun Bagan. Just after the restart, Bagan thrusted forward and Dipanda was there to put it into the back of the net. Just as Churchill were about the make an attack of their own, Bagan struck another one. This time it was Faiyaz with a good finish in front of goal. Churchill responded with Nicholas from the left. His cross was great but no Churchill player was at the receiving end in the box.  Churchill continued to give away free kicks and pick yellow cards as Mohun Bagan players picked up injuries. Kromah was subbed due an injury, Arijit too had to be pulled out.

Norde who had been looking to get a goal the entire afternoon finally got it in five minutes from full time. He moved from left to right on edge of the box as shot an unstoppable one past Khitan. Dipanda could have got his hat-trick if his curling effort found the top corner. Five goals to none it ended at the Barasat for Mohun Bagan against Churchill Brothers.
