Kohli takes 2nd spot in ICC Test rankings, closes in on Ponting’s record

INDIA SKIPPER Virat Kohli, who is ranked No. 1 in Test and ODI cricket, has jumped three places to take the No. 2 spot in latest ICC Test batting rankings.

The prolific batsman, who struck two double-hundreds, a ton and a fifty in the recently-concluded Sri Lanka series, is now only behind Aussie skipper Steve Smith. The Delhi-lad is now close to repeating Ricky Ponting’s feat. The Aussie legend is the only man in history to have held the top spot in all three forms of the game at the same time.

Smith holds a massive 45-point lead over Kohli, who leapfrogged Cheteshwar Pujara, Kane Williamson and Joe Root in the latest rankings.

On the bowling front, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are ranked third and fourth in the Test bowlers’ rankings.
