MATCH REPORT: NEUFC’s first win of the season comes away from home against Delhi Dynamos

A WIN FINALLY put cheer on the faces of NorthEast United FC. NorthEast United won their game after beating Delhi Dynamos FC.

Just before the ten minute mark, a loose pass amongst the Delhi defence fell to the feet of Cezario. He took two of three touches to reach the top of the box and shot hard but failed to find the target. His shot sailed well over the goal.

Delhi defence looked a bit slow to start off from the back and NorthEast kept pinning them down with their constant pressure. Within the first ten minutes Delhi, while making a pass among their defenders, almost gave away the ball to Cezario but recovered quickly. It was looking like the first game of NEUFC , where they did everything right only till the final third. But it changed in this game. A good ball from Narzary from the left side saw Marcinho arrive just in time to tap home a cool finish for NEUFC’s first goal of the season.

It was not too long before they added another. NorthEast’s second came after Albino missed to clear a simple back pass from Pratik. Delhi came to life only after conceding the second goal. Lumu, with the first chance for DD. He was on the right side of the 6 yard box and shot from there only to be stopped by Rehenesh.

A ball over the NEUFC defence, picked Lumu in the space behind defence. He did get his shot away but Rehenesh made a good stop. Close to the end of the first half, Delhi had increased the pace of their game. Rehenesh was involved in a good save from a very close range. Delhi had the ball in the box and the shot taken had a lot of venom and Rehenesh took the shot on the face. Moments before the half time whistle, NEUFC created an opportunity when Narzary sent a good ball in the box and Adilson used it to shoot on goal but Kotal’s block kept the danger away. It ended in a two goal advantage to NorthEast United.

The second half started with Chhangte coming on for the home side. Delhi went to make another two changes. And the changes started taking effect immediately. Rehenesh was played a back pass under pressure and David the substitute was there to snatch it and attempt putting on goal. The keeper who on his toes to make the save. The Delhi subs combined to some explosive moves and one of which was when Chhangte from the left sent a good ball in the middle and David was there but his stretched leg could not get the ball down.

The remainder of the second half saw the pace reduced, ball being just cleared away across halves and by NEUFC and Delhi could not create anything out of the NEUFC stubborn defence. Among the walking paces of the NEUFC team came a lobbed ball behind the Delhi defence. Cezario rushed forward and after entering the box, took a shot which Albino saved at his near post. That was the last chance of the game and NorthEast United ended victors away from home.
