ISL 2017: Bengaluru FC make easy picking of Mumbai City FC as they run out 2-0 winners

NOT THE FIRST half that was expected between Bengaluru FC and Mumbai City at the Kanteerava Stadium. A slow and steady start from both the sides. The home team playing its first ISL match and a lot was expected from them.

They did show a glimpse their capabilities as they were pressing hard from the beginning and were the dominant side. But they couldn't finish their shots and passes. Mumbai City did a good job at keeping the home team at bay from scoring.

Bengaluru had three-four chances towards the end of half-time but no desired result. The fans continously backing their side in hopes of seeing a goal.

Mumbai on the other hand were busy blocking and tackling. An early setback for them came in the form of Leo Costa being replaced by Emana due to injury feared to be a hamstring.

Rozario and Gerson were seen indulging in some harsh tackles but the former escaped with just a warning while the latter received a yellow for this tackle.

Apart from the chances created by Bengaluru and some fouls and tackles, the first half wasn't as gripping as expected.

The second half saw some sloppy passing by Mumbai City FC, missing a few no pressure passes. Bengaluru on the other hand had started to gain confidence and made advances to Amrinder’s goal. Amrinder was called into action a couple of times as the BFC’s flanks took charge. The signs that Mumbai City were losing concentration in the defence started showing up as the number of corners and free kicks conceding by the away team went up. Then it happened. A moment of well-worked corner kick got the breakthrough for the home side. Edu played a short one and received it back near the top of the box on the right side. He swung his left and the ball, though not well connected made its way into the near post. 1-0 to Bengaluru FC. Mumbai City had a couple of half chances when Emana broke into space but could not get the final pass right in the box.

Bengaluru threatened again as Amrinder was called into action more often. A slip up by Wadoo as he failed to judge the bounce of a long drop kick by Gurpreet. Wadoo unaware that amrinder had come out of his box hit it onto his keeper and the rebound fell to a lurking Chhetri who had the simplest task of scoring in an empty net. 2-0 the final score for Bengaluru in the maiden ISL match.
