China Open: Sindhu trumped by 89th ranked Chinese shuttler Fangjie Gao in QF

DEFENDING CHAMPION and second seed PV Sindhu ended her campaign at the China Super Series Premier with a straight game defeat at the hands of 89th ranked Chinese shuttler Fangjie Gao in the quarter-finals today (17th November).

The Chinese came in to the tournament by winning her qualifying rounds and got so far after Nozomi Okhuhara retired hurt in the opening game and then defeated Korean shuttler Jang Mi Lee 21-8, 21-11.

The tall and lean shuttler gave tough fight to a similarly built Indian second seed shuttler. After losing the opening game, fans were expecting for a comeback but the Chinese played a dominant game throughout. And after a point, Sindhu looked as if she's given up on the opportunity to get back while on the other hand, Gao ran away with the points to seal a spot in the semi-finals tomorrow.

With Sindhu's exit, Indian participation ended at the tournament.
