UFC 217 Results: GSP, TJ Dillashaw and Rose Namajunas crowned new champions

UFC MADE A TRIUMPHANT RETURN to New York City last night with UFC 217. Touted as one of the best fight cards of the year, UFC 217 lived up to the expectations with its fair share of good fights and shock results.

GSP returned to win the title

The biggest shock perhaps came thanks to Rose Namajunas who became the new Women’s Strawweight champion by defeating Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Namajunas made Joanna tap out via strikes and ended the championship undefeated streak and hopes of equalling the record of Ronda Rousey for most consecutive title defenses.

In the co-main event, TJ Dillashaw silenced his critics when he stopped Cody Garbrandt to become the new UFC Bantamweight champion. TJ and Cody went on to have an entertaining fight while it lasted as both men were taking turns to drop each other. But in the end, it was TJ who managed to get the better and finished the fight early as well.

Georges St. Pierre returned to the octagon after a long gap and looked better than ever when he defeated Micheal Bisping. Both fighters had their moment while the fight lasted. GSP looked sharped despite the long break and was pushing Bisping to the back foot for most part. A left hook in the third round turned decisive in the fight as GSP capitalized on the same to get the win and the title.

Elsewhere, Stephen Thompson secured a crucial win at the event when he dominated over Jorge Masvidal. A comfortable performance from Wonderboy saw him cruise to a unanimous decision victory.
