Mohammed Siraj & Shreyas Iyer get the nod for New Zealand T20s

THE BCCI announced the squad for the upcoming T20 series against New Zealand. The Virat Kohli-led side has seen the inclusion of two new players in the side – Mohammed Siraj and Shreyas Iyer.

The three-match T20 series will get underway on November 1. Speaking about the new faces, Selection Committee chairman MSK Prasad, said,

“Iyer has been prolific across formats – in first-class, one-dayers, T20 – he’s been performing consistently. If we pick a player, we will give him a long run. The same applies for Siraj.”

While Shreyas drew eyeballs for his impressive performance during India A’s matches against New Zealand A and South Africa A, Siraj is known to have got the limelight after picking 10 wickets from six matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 10.

Prasad also added that Nehra’s place in the first T20 is not assured and it will be up to the team management to decide the playing XI. It is learnt that the left arm seamer has not asked for a farewell game.

“We can’t say that [if he will surely play in the Delhi T20I]. Whether he is going to play or not, it is clearly the team management and the selector on call, whoever it is. The think tank involved will be taking a call. There is no assurance from our side that he’s going to play or not. It will be decided on that particular day.”
