FIFA U-17 WC: Germany beat Guinea 3-1 to enter RD of 16 along with Iran from Group C

GERMANY enter the round of 16 as they defeated Guinea 3-1 in their final group stage match in Kochi.

In a must win match for Guinea, they started off at a great pace against Germany who were looking to shed off the 0-4 thrashing against Iran in their previous match.

Playing at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi amidst a handful of crowd, the Germans dominated the first few minutes of the game. Just inside the first minute, Germans were awarded a free-kick but no damage was done.

Guinea, on the other hand displayed good show of passes but couldn't carry it further when it came to the final touches and finishes. In the 8th minute, Germany takes the lead, courtesy by the captain Jann-Fiete ARP who took the advantage of a defensive lapse by the boys in red and yellow.

Post the 20th minute mark, Guinea came alive with their shots and were the dominant side. The performance got them the equaliser through Ibrahima Soumah who scored in the 26th minute after a lot of commotion near the goal.

The scores remained the same through the first half but there could have been more goals from either side.

The start of the second half saw Guinea being the stronger side but the Germans wouldn't let this go easily as whenever they got a chance to score they would try and take shots on target. Once such moment came in the 47th minute when Mohamed Kamar, the Guinea keeper had to make double saves consecutively and he did his job well.

The Germans, once again taking advantage of the lapses in the defence area of Guinea, scored through a Nicolas Kuehn in the 62nd minute, a simple shot but the keeper couldn't do much. Post the Germans took the lead, Guinea once pressing hard and tried their best to eaqulise once again.

They had numerous chances to score a goal but the Germans were adamant to keep the lead to themselves and continued to attack in search of more goals.

Post the 80th minute, Guinea got a number of chances to score but were disallowed through a block by the Germans or the final touches weren't that good.

And that cost them not just points but also the match and it was the end of the road for the African side.

Finally in the injury time, Germany converted a goal through a penalty which gave them three points and also a place in the round of 16. Joining them from Group C is Iran.
