HARYANA STEELERS return to Pro-Kabaddi duties after a nine-day break, with a clash against U Mumba at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, in Chennai, on Wednesday. Currently in second place in Zone A, the Steelers hold a five-point lead over the Mumbai side, after playing 18 games each.
Steelers Coach Ranbir Singh Khokhar says the break, which saw his side go back to Sonipat, served them well ahead of an important part of the campaign. The Haryana coach said,
“It was great to go back to Haryana, especially because most of the players are from Sonipat. We gave them a day’s rest where they could meet their families, and come back rejuvenated and motivated. We practiced for a week on our skills and worked on the fitness of the players as well.”
With a five-point lead over Wednesday’s opposition, Khokhar maintains that the onus is on his side to win what is an important clash.
“We play U Mumba tomorrow and like us, they have four games left to play in the League. They have 54 points while we are ahead with 59. A win will help us extend that lead, which is why this game is extremely important to us.”
Having lost to U Mumbai twice in this campaign, Khokhar has said that strategies have been put in place to solve the Mumbai puzzle.
“Our games against U Mumba have been very close. Based on those previous results, we have created a strategy that I believe will help us win. It is a crucial game for us and we want to win it!”
Mumba, meanwhile, come into the game on a three-game winning streak and have won seven out of their last eight clashes in the League. Coach Bhaskaran Edacherry will look to the services of Captain Anup Kumar, who has been an integral part of both victories against the Steelers this season.
