R Ashwin likely to play Ranji Trophy 2017-18 opener for Tamil Nadu

INDIA OFFIE Ravichandran Ashwin is expected to play Tamil Nadu’s opening game of the upcoming Ranji Trophy season.

The Chennai-lad is currently playing the County Championship in England but is likely to be available for the state’s opener against Andhra at Chepauk, starting October 6. As reported by Cricbuzz, a TNCA official said that they are ‘hopeful’ that the Ashwin will be available.

“We are hopeful that he would play if he is available. He did play in the inaugural TNPL in 2016 immediately upon arriving from the West Indies tour. If he plays, then it will be a big boost for TN.”

Meanwhile, playing in Worcestershire and Durham match, Ashwin struck his first County fifty last evening. His knock came to an end on 82 off 130. So far, Ashwin has taken 13 wickets for Worcestershire, which includes a fifer against Gloucestershire.
