This week in Impact History: A look back at No Surrender 2009

On September 20, 2009, IMPACT Wrestling presented No Surrender, a Pay-Per-View event, LIVE from the IMPACT Zone at Universal Studios Orlando.

No Surrender saw the return of Bobby Lashley

No Surrender was one of the flagship PPV events aired by the company for several years before it became a yearly staple airing at the scheduled time for IMPACT Wrestling in over 120 countries. In 2009, No Surrender featured matches from some of the most influential wrestlers in the industry and surprised fans with title changes and surprises.

In the Knockouts Division, Sarita and Taylor Wilde were able to defeat the Beautiful People, consisting of Madison Rayne and Velvet Sky, to take hold of the Knockouts Tag Team Championship.  The duo would go on to hold the Championship for 106 days. The Knockouts Tag Team Championship was retired in June of 2013.

In some of the more shocking matches of the night, Hernandez defeated Eric Young in less than a minute, Samoa Joe beat Christopher Daniels to retain the X-Division Championship and ODB overcame Cody Deaner to win the Knockouts Championship.

However, the biggest match of the night was the five-way World Heavyweight Championship match, where the biggest names in the company all vied for the highest honor in the company. AJ Styles, Kurt Angle, Hernandez, Matt Morgan and Sting all clashed inside the ring, during the Main Event. Despite a grueling match and heavy competition, AJ Styles prevailed and became the World Heavyweight Champion. He would hold the honor two times during his career with IMPACT Wrestling.
