Japan SS: Sindhu & Saina ousted; Srikanth, Prannoy & Pranaav/Sikki enter QF

NOT A good day for PV Sindhu as she ended her campaign at Japan Super Series after losing to local favourite Nozomi Okuhara in the pre-quarters 21-18, 21-8.

Sindhu had avenged her World Badminton Championships defeat by winning the Korea SS title but failed to carry the momentum in Japan. Okuhara dominated the match completely and didn't allow the 4th seed Indian to get back. A tit-for-tat approach as Okuhara now takes back the win to her name.

Saina Nehwal too ended her campaign after losing to Carolina Marin in straight games 21-16, 21-13. Marin dominated the match throughout.

On the other hand, men's singles shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy secured a spot in the quarters. Both had comfortable victories to qualify ahead in the tournament. 8th seed Srikanth defeated Yun Hu (Hong Kong) 21-12, 21-11 to set up a clash against 3rd seed Viktor Axelsen (Denmark) next. Prannoy trumped Jen Hao (Chinese Taipei) 21-16, 23-21 to face-off against 2nd seed Shi Yuqi (China) next.

Mixed doubles duo of Pranaav Jerry Chopra/Sikki Reddy too continued their winning run as they defeated Yuki Kaneko/Koharu Yonemoto (Japan) 21-13, 21-17.

Satwiksairaj/Ashwini Ponnappa gave a tough fight to 4th seeds Jordan/Debby (Indonesia) but it wasn't enough as they went down fighting 29-27, 16-21, 12-21.

Saina Nehwal will play Carolina Marin (Spain) later today.
