Pro Kabaddi: Bengal Warriors remain unbeaten at home, beat Tamil Thalaivas 29-25

BENGAL WARRIORS continued their unbeaten streak at home with a 29-25 win over Tamil Thalaivas at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday. Maninder Singh was their best raider on the night and managed six points, while skipper Surjeet Singh was their best performing defender with four points.

Both teams got on the board through successful tackles in keeping with the theme of the opening eight minutes when the defences were on top. Neither team managed to establish control of the game up until the 13th minute of the encounter when the hosts started to grow into the match.

The home side then inflicted the first All-Out of the contest in the 16th minute to take a 15-8 lead. Bengal ended the half strongly through some strong tackling in defence and a couple of successful raids by Maninder to take an 18-9 lead into the break.

Chennai began the second period on the front foot and managed to narrow the deficit to 20-14 in the 29th minute. Vinod Kumar managed two successful raids for the Warriors but the southerners ate away at their lead with some dominant defending and a few successful raids by Dong Geon Lee.

With momentum behind them, the Thalaivas further narrowed the deficit with some more resolute defensive work as well as successful raids by substitute M. Thivakaran and Ajay Thakur. Chennai then went on to effect an All-Out to make it 23-22 and set up an exciting finish with little time left on the clock.

However, Bengal’s best raider of the season Maninder sensed the danger for his side and came up with a super raid at the right moment to give his side some breathing space. With a four-point lead in the bank, the Warriors then went on to close out the game with smart defending to extend their undefeated run to three games at home.
