ARGUABLY THE BIGGEST fight in combat sports history happened at the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada on August 26, 2017.

McGregor was TKO'd by Mayweather in the tenth round

On one side, we had Conor McGregor, who is the reigning UFC Lightweight champion and one of the most iconic names in MMA history. On the other side, we had Floyd Mayweather, who has been on top of the boxing food chain for more than two decades.

The buildup towards the fight had been an insane one and the amount of money involved is too much to digest. It’s a sporting event that the whole world is eagerly watching.

First Six Rounds

The fight started off with Conor trying to corner Mayweather early on. The UFC Champion, however, seemed composed in comparison to his usual aggression. Though no major action ensued in the first round, Conor was clearly ahead. The second round had a similar story. Conor, however, was warned for his usage of Hammerfists. A well-placed uppercut from Conor proved to be the highlight of the second round which went well for him.

The pace of the fight picked up in the fourth round as both fighters started going forward. Conor did land some punches but soon, Floyd started showing why he is the best boxer in the world by dodging and ducking the punches.

Conor seemed to have slowed down in the fifth round as Floyd was finding his rhythm. The round worked in favour of the undefeated boxer but sixth turned to be a contrasting picture. Floyd came out more aggressive but did eat some good shots from the Irishman. Both men had their moments and it seemed like Floyd slightly edged out Conor on the scorecards.

Last Four Rounds

The second half of the fight started with a to and fro seventh round. Spells of dominance from both fighters was on the showcase and these were separated by clinches that the referee broke up. Floyd, yet again, was in the driving seat as Conor was looking slow. Floyd then started chasing Conor in the eighth round and did land some occasional jabs. Conor did have his moments, and in turn making the eight round a close one to call.

Ninth round saw an explosive start for Conor before the referee broke up the fighters. Floyd returned the favour just seconds later and clearly had Conor on the backfoot by landing some huge right hands. The UFC champion was off balance and barely survived the round towards the end. Floyd came out all guns in the tenth round and the referee called for a stoppage, in turn, awarding Floyd the win.

With the win, Floyd is now 50-0 in his career whereas Conor's first professional boxing fight ended in a defeat.
