Shillong Premier League: Rangdajied United overcome Shillong United 2-0

FORMER I-LEAGUE HEAVYWEIGHTS Rangdajied United started their Shillong Premier League campaign with a convincing win over Shillong United.

The match which inaugurated this season of the Shillong Premier League started with the underdogs Shillong United trying hard to keep control over the game through their high workrate and ball possession but their efforts came crashing down when on the 43rd minute Rangdajied received a penalty. S Sokhtung converted from the spot, sending RUFC up 1-0 just before half-time.

Shillong United came out all guns blazing but the Rangdajied defence kept their cool and stuck to their shape to grind out the initial assault. Towards the end of the game they retaliated with increasing intensity, and 86 minutes in Malngiang extended their lead to 2-0, ensuring a win.

Rangdajied have assembled a competent squad for this SPL season which coupled with the fact that many Shillong Lajong players have left the club - which won the last two SPL seasons with dominant performances - for ISL, the local league is expected to see tighter race for the crown.
