This team has the potential to do things that probably no other team has done: Shastri

INDIA CHIEF COACH Ravi Shastri has lauded his team and stated that they have achieved much more than the past Indian teams. Speaking at the press meet ahead of the second Test, Shastri said,

"This Indian team has been with each other for two years and they are much more experienced now. They have already done things that a lot of other Indian teams and a lot of big names couldn't do in their careers, for example, winning a series here in Sri Lanka (in 2015)."

India is set to play overseas tours against South Africa, England and Australia, and Shastri sees them as an opportunity for his side to improve across all departments.

"When you say overseas tours like South Africa, England, etc. it is a lot of tough cricket coming up and I see it as an opportunity. I am very positive that this team can do things that probably no other Indian team has done."

When asked more about South Africa tour, the 55-year-old that he would like to live in the present and focus on the ongoing Sri Lanka tour.

"I am not going to go as far ahead as South Africa tour. I live in the present. We are 1-0 up against Lanka. We want to keep that record intact and treat every game as a new game where the rules are the same. You go out to play your brand of cricket and you go out to win."

Shastri also explained how KL Rahul might go in the second Test that starts in Colombo in August 3. The opener who missed the first Test due to illness is all set to feature in the second Test.

“Rahul is (doing) good. We are watching him closely. He went through some tough times and he was in the hospital for 2-3 days. Obviously, it has taken a lot out of him. So we have to be very careful how we treat him, we are watching him very closely and he is getting better by the day," explained Shastri.
