ISL 2017 Draft review: Wise positional pickings by NorthEast United FC

NORTHEAST IN EVERY SENSE. That is how the team draft can be reviewed in one line. Almost half the team is from the North Eastern states of India. Now that is called being true to your name.

The team has some well-known and experienced names like Nirmal Chhetri, Holicharan Narzary, Lalrindika Ralte, Robert Lalthlamuana.

Narzary and Ralte took up most of the purse money in their picks. NEUFC were conscious not to over spend and really used the finances wisely.

Holicharan, with his experience at the national team can come in handy of playing as a winger or a forward line player. His pace is useful for a fast-paced attacking team like that of NorthEast United FC. With an intelligent midfielder like Lalrindika, the team is capable of quick-exchange plays to launch attacks.

Robert, at about 25 lakhs, was a smart buy. Robert on the left back position, with Ralte on left mids and having Narzary up ahead on the left wing makes a blazing left flank in league. Watch out for this combination!

Nirmal Chhetri adds some chilling hard tackles for the opposition players to be wary about. Gurpreet Singh, Raegan Singh and Abdul Hakku along with Gursimrat Gill make up the rest of defence line.

In the midfield, Malemnganba Meitei brings with him good game time for the team. Sushil Metei, Lalrempuia Fanai are the mids under the developmental category.

With Rehenesh TP retained, Ravi Kumar will have a long wait to play on goal. The team could add another keeper just as a back-up.

All in all a very good overall team picked with smart buys.
