Mohun Bagan lead the charge as I-League clubs chase players who went unpicked in ISL Draft

RIGHT AFTER THE long awaited ISL Draft for the 2017-18 ended, transfer activities for some of the I-League clubs hit the roof.

With 134 players being selected out of 205 present in the Draft, many of the the remaining 71 players became subject to high interest from I-League clubs. And some ISL franchises may still sign a couple more players from the lot.

Mohun Bagan were the most active club on Sunday evening. They immediately established contact with some of the major names that went unpicked and within a few hours snapped up 5 of them.

Abhishek Das, the right back who played for Chennaiyin FC in the first 3 editions of ISL, went unpicked to everyone's surprise. The Tata Football Academy product had played for East Bengal, United Sikkim and even Mohun Bagan in the past. He has been signed by the Mariners again without delay.

It was the same with defender Debabrata Roy who played regularly for Dempo, East Bengal, Mahindra and Chennai City in I-League and FC Goa in ISL. The Kolkata-born player who has earned 16 national team caps is going to be playing at a club from his home town for the first time in 8 years.

Former Pune FC and Pune City defender Gurjinder Singh is also going to join the Mariners, and midfielder Denson Devadas is making a comeback at the Green and Maroons. And former Mumbai FC player Shilton D'Silva is also going to join the Bagan midfield.

Reportedly, East Bengal and Churchill Brothers are also going after these players aggressively. In the coming days we are likely to see many signings being made by the top division clubs as they prepare to get their season underway.
