US GPG: Kashyap, Prannoy in RD 2; Pranaav/Sikki ousted
IT WAS A great outing for the men's singles shuttlers Parupalli Kashyap, HS Prannoy, Harsheel Dani, Sameer Verma as they tasted success in the first round of US Grand Prix Gold.
Kashyap defeated the top seed Lee Hyun Il 21-16, 10-21, 21-19 and will face Gergely Krausz next. Sameer on his return, made a mark after winning his opening round match against Hoang Nam Nguyen 21-5, 21-10. The 5th seed Indian will play Zvonimir Durkinjak next. Harsheel too had an easy outing against Arturo Hernandez 21-13, 21-9 to play 15th seed Tien Minh next.
Prannoy defeated Luka Wraber 21-12, 21-16 and will play Joshua Magee in round two.
Abhishek Yelegar lost to 3rd seed Brice Leverdez while Lakhnee Sarang lost to Kenta Nishimoto.
Sri Krishna Priya and Rituparna Das had easy outings in the opening round but will face tough opponents in the second. Priya will be up against 5th seed Jang Mi Lee and Rituparna will face 7th seed Natalia Koch. Ruthvika lost to 3rd seed Aya Ohori in the first round.
Men's doubles Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy began their campaign with a win over Jason/Nyl 21-15, 21-19 and will play Hendra Tandjaya/Androw next. Francis Alwin/Kona Tarun had an easy outing 21-3, 21-10 win against Yan Tuck/Brian Chi but will face 7th seeds Hiroki/Masayuki next. 4th seeds Satwik/Chirag Shetty lost to Kohei Gondo/Tatsuya Watanabe 8-21, 21-19, 21-19.
The only pair to go ahead in the tournament in women's doubles category is Poorvisha Ram/Jakkampudi Meghana, they defeated Rira/Saori 21-16, 14-21, 21-14 to clash against 7th seeds Mayu/Wakana next. While Kuhoo Garg/Ningshi Hazarika lost to 3rd seeds Anastasia/Olga 21-12, 21-10.
In the mixed doubles there was a surprise in store as 3rd seeds Pranaav Jerry Chopra/Sikki Reddy lost to Ben Lane/Jessica Pugh in three-game encounter 19-21, 21-19, 21-17. On the other hand, Attri/Maneesha K won against Nyl/Brittney 21-13, 21-15 and will play 4th seeds Goh Huat/Shevon Lai next. But Tarun/Meghana too suffered loss against Tuan Duc/Nhu Pham 21-15, 21-17.
