Indian MMA prospect Watch: AIMMAF National Gold Medalist Vivek Jha

THE 20-YEAR-OLD Vivek Jha impressed at the recently concluded AIMMAF National Championship. Primarily a striker, Vivek started his combat sports journey with boxing.

Vivek won a gold medal at the AIMMAF National Championships

After representing his college, district and state in different competitions, Vivek then tried his hand successfully in Wushu and Kickboxing as well. The diversion towards MMA came thanks to Indian MMA fighter Farhan Siddique.

It was Farhan that introduced Vivek to the sport of MMA and the start was not that good. Initially, Vivek felt that MMA was not his cup of tea. Despite the initial hiccup, Vivek continued to train under Team Dheeth. He notes that training BJJ at the team was a great experience for him as he came from a boxing background.

The whole scenario of awkardness, however,  changed when he stepped into the cage for the AIMMAF National MMA championships. It was his first experience at a major MMA event and he notes that he learned a lot seeing the fights.

Vivek picked up a win at the championship in the 84-KG category and urged by the win, he has decided to take up the sport as a profession going forward.

One thing that works in favor of Vivek is the support of his family. According to him, his family and friends are very supportive of his decisions and even though he is currently studying, he still finds time to train and follow his dream.

The Indian MMA prospect watch is a new series by TFG MMA to introduce the upcoming MMA fighters from around the nation. The story  was made with the help of an exclusive interview which was given by Vivek to The Fan Garage.
