Pick Ravi Shastri was a unanimous call, says Ganguly

FORMER INDIA SKIPPER and Cricket Advisory Committee member Sourav Ganguly explicitly mentioned that Ravi Shastri was the unanimous choice of the three-member unit comprising Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and himself.

On July 11, the CAC gave Shastri a nod ahead of Tom Moody, Virender Sehwag and Lalchand Rajput. In an interaction with Indian Express, Ganguly divulged that skipper Virat Kohli was kept in the loop before making the major announcement.

“No, no. It was unanimous. We picked the best person we thought. In consultation with Virat, we picked the best person.”

Along with Shastri, Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan were also appointed as India’s overseas batting consultant and bowling coach. Ganguly further added,

“He (Shastri) was consulted by Sachin. That’s why we had asked for time.”

On the other hand, the Committee of Administrators (COA) hailed the CAC for picking Shastri as the head coach of India.

“The Cricket Advisory Committee has made its recommendation regarding the coach. It is a comprehensive recommendation covering all aspects of the coaching requirement of any team.”
