INDIA HEAD COACH ROLE: Venkatesh Prasad throws his hat in the ring

FORMER INDIA PACEMAN Venkatesh Prasad has thrown his hat in the ring for the head coach position of the national team. Prasad is the latest candidate to have applied for the high-profile post which has been left vacant since Anil Kumble’s resignation.

As reported by TOI, Prasad confirmed that he was applying for the position after the legendary leggie stepped down from the post in the wake of India’s Champions Trophy final defeat to arch-rivals Pakistan. Prasad, who is currently working as the junior India chief selector, had also applied for the post in 2016. However, he had stated that he was unaware of Kumble's application for the top job.

The 47-year-old will now be competing against former India team director Ravi Shastri, former India opener Virender Sehwag, former Australia allrounder Tom Moody, current Afghanistan head coach Lalchand Rajput, West Indies director of cricket Richard Pybus and former Test player Dodda Ganesh.
